Local Summer Fun Ideas

School is out, summer is here, and now its time to kick back and have some fun! There are tons of things to do in the summer while you aren’t stuck at school all day. And you don’t have to go far to do them.

Swimming is a great way to have fun and beat the heat at the same time. Don’t have a pool? Almost all neighborhoods and apartment complexes have a pool open to local residents. And if they don’t, get out the sprinkler and go wild! It will be a blast and keep you cool while getting a nice tan.

Another way to have fun during the summer is to have a bar-b-que with all of your friends. Get a couple of people together and have each person bring one thing. One person brings the hot dogs, and another brings the buns. If enough people come you can have a feast without spending a lot of money. Put on some music and you and your friends can have a great time eating and hanging out!

If you live close to a beach, make a whole day out of hanging out by the bay. Get some of your friends together and head out to the nearest beach. There are all sorts of things to do on a hot sunny day at the beach. You can rent bicycles, snorkeling equipment, fishing poles, and even horses. It might cost a little bit of money but it would be a lot of fun!

Volunteering is a great way to help out with your community and to also have fun. Today I went out with the iLife team to pass out ice cream and juice to the kids at Boys & Girls Harbor. Shell Oil from Deer Park brought out a fire truck and sprayed water into the park and let the kids play in it. Watching the kids playing in the water was so much fun. Just knowing that I was helping them have such a great time gave me a great feeling of self and made sitting out in the hot sun well worth it.

During the summer, you can find numerous things to do, you just might have to think outside the box a little bit. Volunteering, playing outside, getting a summer job, hanging out with friends, the ideas are endless! Just don’t waste your summer sitting around at home doing nothing. Go out and have some fun!
