Saving Money on Groceries
Going away to college can be exciting and fun, but also a lot of hard work. Living on your own isn’t an easy task. You now have to cook, clean, and fend for yourself without any help. And money doesn’t last long either. Especially when you have to pay for everything. One very expensive thing in particular; groceries. Groceries can get very expensive, very fast. But there is little things you can do to prevent from spending more than you have to.
Shop for Store Brand Products Store brand products are pretty much the exact same thing as the originals, the only difference is the name, and the price. Saving a couple cents may not seem like that big of a difference, but it adds up quicker than you might think. It is cheaper, and tastes just as good!
Look for Specials You can find a newspaper on pretty much every corner in town. And in the back of those newspapers, are piles and piles of catalogs with great specials and deals going on that week. So if you know you are about to go spend a lot of money at the grocery store, look at the ads first and see if there isn’t something you can save on at another place.
Don’t Shop When You’re Hungry This is very important when grocery shopping. If you go shopping when you are hungry, everything is going to look delicious, resulting in you buying more food. And if it smells good, you’ll be even more likely to buy it. But if you go shopping when you are full, or fine, you will spend less. You will end up buying only what you need to buy, and wont be pressured to get that donut over in the bakery that is calling your name.
These three simple rules can help you save a bundle while grocery shopping. And when you’re in college, you can use all the extra money you can get!
