Ways to Beat Summer Boredom

Summer is definitely a time to unwind and relax. But once you are tired of relaxing, what is there to do? There is no school during the day, no homework to do, and no tests to study for, and with all of this new free time, boredom can strike at any moment. To fix the problem, we have provided some fun, time consuming things to do that will cure any bored-to-death syndrome you might have.

The words “summer job” just sounds boring, but you would be surprised how much fun it can be. Having a summer job doesn’t mean spending 9 to 5 every day listening to someone boss you around. Small part-time jobs can be a lot of fun, and most of the employees are teenagers your own age. Summer jobs can also get your foot in the door of the real world. It gives you something to put on resumes for future jobs and college applications. Not a bad idea to occupy your time, and earn you money.

If you are looking for an extra something to put on college or scholarship applications, volunteering is the way to go. Not only are you giving yourself something to do, you are giving back to your community as well, and colleges love that! Volunteering also gives you a sense of pride in knowing that you are helping someone in need. You are giving someone something that they probably couldn’t have done without your help. Shell Federal Credit Union’s FCU team participates in tons of community involvement events around the area that anyone can come help out at. If you are interested in volunteering, click the Upcoming Events tab at the top to view all possible community involvement events you can attend!

Getting involved in a sport is a great way to keep you busy, and keep you fit. It gives you something to work for and you are constantly trying to get better and better. By joining a sport you make new friends who are interested in the same thing as you. And by making more friends, you have less of a chance to be bored. So even if you don’t make it to the pros, you can still make life long friends.

Miriam Webster defines boredom as the state of being weary and restless through lack of interest. So what do you do? Get interested in something! Find a hobby, something to occupy your time and makes you happy. You don’t have to let boredom take over your life, just get involved!
