Texting And Driving Don't Mix

Have you ever been driving down the road and all of a sudden your phone goes off? The curiosity of who the text is from starts to boil inside of you. You are just itching to reach over and grab your phone. It will just take a few seconds, and its not be that big of a deal…

Wrong. That few seconds of simply reaching over to grab your phone takes your eyes off the road, and off of the other cars surrounding you. Those few measly little seconds could cause a wreck and possibly take someone’s life. Cell phone distractions cause 2,600 deaths and 330,000 injuries in the U.S. alone each year. You are 23 times more likely to get in an accident if you are texting while driving.

So why take the chance? If people know it is bad and could kill someone by doing it, why would you do it? A Nationwide insurance public opinion poll stated that 20% of the public admitted to texting while driving, knowing that it was dangerous. Don’t think, “Oh that will never happen to me,” because it can happen to the safest of drivers. All it takes is one time. A study in 2006 showed that using a cell phone while driving can be as dangerous as driving drunk.

If your phone goes off, and you absolutely must check it, pull off to the side of the road or in a parking lot. It if isn’t worth the hassle of pulling over, than you really don’t care to see what it says that badly enough.
