The Furthering Community Unity Team and Shell Federal Credit Union will be hosting a Community Outreach Seminar for free to our members and community.
There will be guest speakers from various volunteer organizations to help you learn about the different types of organizations there are and the things they do in our community.
This will be a FREE seminar and all ages are welcome. The seminar will be held on April 10th at Shell Federal Credit Union in Deer Park (301 E 13th St Deer Park, TX 77536) from 6:00 to 7:30 PM.
If you are a parent of a student, a student or a community member wanting to find a way give back; please join us for this fun and informational seminar.

With college costs on the rise, it's more important than ever for students and families to plan carefully and fully understand all financial aid options. By maximizing no- and low-cost financial aid, choosing student loans carefully, and developing proper money management skills, it's still possible for students to leave college with a bright financial future . . . and not just a mountain of debt.
This week is College Application Week – Where graduating seniors all across the world are encouraged to start applying! Most colleges recommend that you have your applications in before Thanksgiving. Applications submitted before then are eligible for scholarships and will have a faster acceptance response.
All John Garrison scholarship applications are due this Saturday, March 12, 2011. Applications are due either in hand at any Shell FCU branch before closing at 12:30 PM on Saturday or if submitting by mail it must be postmarked no later than March 12, 2011.
The John Garrison Scholarships were established in 2000 in memory of John Garrison, a dedicated member of the Shell Federal Credit Union Board of Directors. Mr. Garrison served on the Board for over 50 years as a volunteer. His vision and volunteer spirit is still an inspiration for us all. Our hope is that applicants will embrace that same spirit and carry it forward into their own careers and beyond.
Searching for scholarships can be difficult, if you don’t know where to look. Don’t think because you aren’t a minority that you can’t get a scholarship. There is no sense in paying full price for college. All you have to do is search!
The first place to search is the counselor’s office. Every counselor’s office usually has a shelf full of scholarships, grants and financial aid. Don’t be afraid to ask a counselor for help either. They can help you with any questions you might have. After all, that’s what they are there for!
Next place to look is online. There are a ton of websites with thousands of scholarships to choose from. You can even narrow down your choices so that you can look at scholarships that specifically apply to you. Here is a list of great scholarship websites you can look at:

If you are a graduating senior this year, you are in luck! Shell FCU has a scholarship every year for graduating high school seniors. As long as you are a member and have $5 in your savings account, you can apply! You can find the scholarship at www.sfcuilife.org.
Need to add some more fluff to your scholarship applications? Volunteer with the FCU Team for community service hours! Volunteering looks great on scholarships, resumes and college applications. Anyone is welcome to come volunteer. You can check out all of the upcoming events at www.govolunteertoday.org.
Shell Federal Credit Union will be awarding scholarships to some lucky 2011 graduating seniors. The scholarship is easy to fill out and a simple way to make some cash to pay for college. To be eligible to apply for the scholarship you must:
1. Be a Shell FCU member with a savings account with at least a $5 account balance,
2. Be a high school graduating senior in the 2010-2011 school year,
3. And be planning on attending an accredited two-year or four-year college, university or vocational-technical school in the United States.
