The Future of Car Buying

Getting a new car is exciting, but buying a new car? Not so much. Car salesmen can be difficult to work with and it is hard to trust them. But with new technology and means of car searching, the times of heckling with car salesmen are coming to an end.

The internet is beginning to make the whole car buying situation a lot easier, and cheaper. Websites like www.zag.com make it very easy for car buyers to search for exactly what they want in the comfort of their own home. This also makes it very easy to compare cars at different dealerships.

According to a recent article on CNNmoney.com, you should never even have to go to a dealership until you have already negotiated the price of the car via email or phone. Negotiating the price face to face takes up a lot of time, and will often result in you paying a higher price. Car salesmen know that if you are using the internet to contact them, then it is likely that you are using it to contact other dealerships at the same time, so they are more willing to go down on the price.

So what does all this mean? If you are looking to buy a car, follow these three simple steps:
1. Visit any Shell FCU branch and talk to a loan officer about buying a car. They will give you a list of preferred dealers and tell you how much you should spend. First time buying a car? Shell FCU provides members with iDrive loans for first time car buyers.
2. Get online and start looking! Once you find a car you like that fits your budget you can email the dealership and try to negotiate on a good price.
3. After negotiating a price, go take a look at your car to make sure it is exactly what you want. And if it is, buy it!

Car buying doesn’t have to be difficult. Just follow these steps and you’ll be good to go! And remember if you have any questions you can always call 713-844-1100 to get an answer.
